Can I create a PDF of a textbook if I don't sell or share it?

If you open a textbook, you can find the Copyright notice, something like. "No part of this publication may be reproduced or transmitted in any form or by any means, electronic or mechanical, including photocopy, recording, or any information storage and retrieval system, without permission in writing from the publisher." That means, before even starting reading the book, you should get permission from the publisher, or you may face legal problems - because your brain is an information storage, and you are able to retrieve information by telling what you have read. It may be considered to be a fair use, allowing to make some notes as long as you own the first copy, but transferring the ownership will violate the Copyright if you have no proof you forgot everything you have read in the book. The moment you start making really good money from your busyness or/and affecting the publisher's profit, the publisher may take it from you by employing good lawyers. All depends on the publisher's mood and your wealth and luck. I think, it would be good to read the Copyright and other notices in the book and ensure there was no limitation on transferring the ownership expressed explicitly.

Create PDF: All You Need to Know

This is something the publisher may decide to stop even at the expense of the author's honor and integrity... it makes no sense for a person to sign a book and have it not be used as a reference; even if it is not translated into another language, the book gives the author everything he needs to make reference material, which may make him or her a rich person one day. But for some reason I just don't care to read it, so I'll let the pictures do the talking. The text and illustrations in this book are copyright 2007, 2011, 2015 by Among Fiona for free use. Please use them for non-commercial use, share them everywhere and give credit. Don't change the content, don't make commercial use of them. Don't publish them somewhere else. Here you will see the cover of the book in its original.
